Obituary Elsje Kauw
Mrs. Elsie Kauw (full name Kauw Liang Eng Nio) is the happy smiling girl on the beautiful picture that has become the 'figurehead' of the project Warlovechild. Her story is described in the category 'Soldier Sweethearts’ on this website. Late November 2010 Ibu Els has deceased.
She is one of the mothers who tells her story in the documentary Tuan Papa. She remembers her immense love for the young Dutch soldier Jack or ‘Sjaak’, as she used to call him by his cosy name. She is the mother of Nana and the aunt of Dien, who both tell there stories in the documentary and on this website as well.
Elsie Kauw was 81 years old and lived with her daughter Nana and son in law in Semarang, Indonesia.
In the spring of 2010, Jack van den Brom also died, the lover of Elsie and father of Nana, here in the picture as a young soldier with Els. Thus, both individuals of this picture have deceased.
We are very happy that both of them so extensively dared to share their story with us.
We wish both families strength and thank them for their help, support and confidence in the project Warlovechild.org |
