Will there be more stories about daddy soldiers and warlovechildren on this site?
Yes. We are looking for Dutch soldiers who fathered children in Indonesia during their military service as well as the warlovechildren themselves who want to tell us their personal experiences. And if we get permission, we will post a summary on the website.
Are you also interested in stories of family members who are looking for their warlove half-brothers or half sisters in Indonesia?
Yes. We are eager to collect stories that can tell us something about the lives of Dutch veterans and their withheld and left behind children in Indonesia.
Do you pay a visit to everyone personally for an interview?
No, but sometimes we do. Genereally we keep in touch by telephone or email.
When the warlovechild and the veteran or his family have already found each other, are you still interested in their stories?
Yes, for sure! We would love to know how they found each other and what happened since then with the families and their interaction.
Can I also tell my story anonymous?
Of course. Sometimes people find it difficult to make their story public, including names and addresses. Nevertheless we are interested in their stories. We will collect their story and may describe it on this website without revealing their identities.
Is there any help when I would like to start a search for my family?
We created a section 'Your search' on this website. Here you can post a message with the details of your search. Here you can also exchange information and personal experiences with other visitors of this website. There are also some possibilities of professional help, described in the section 'Information'.
Can I upload photographs in my personal message?
Yes, you can upload one file - a photograph or a document - in the category 'Your search' next to your message. When you do not succeed, you can contact us by sending a mail to
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
. In that case you can send us a digital copy of your photograph and we will post it.
Do you film all interviews that you are collecting?
No, not anymore. We did a lot of filming in the periode 2009/2010 for the production of the documentary Tuan Papa. Nowadays most of the interviews we do by telephone. When we write an outline of your story, we will send you a draft before publishing it in text on the website.
Will you make a documentary of the stories you are collecting?
We produced the film Tuan Papa, based on the stories of 17 interviewees. Not all of them are in the film, but we will use the content for this website and other media. The film Tuan Papa was screened on the Dutch national television in 2010. In 2011 we produced a dvd of the film, which is for sale via this website.
What happened with the interview footage after the production of the film?
The raw material of the interviews is collected in DANS (Data Archiving and Networked Services). This is the Dutch scientific database for research, journalists etc. Professional researchers can ask permission to enter the database and see the complete interviews.
Is this website also for warlovechildren outside the Netherlands who are looking for their fathers?
Yes, as long as they are warlovechildren, fathered by a Dutch military during the colonial war 1946-1950 in Indonesia.
Does this website serve any children who are looking for their biologial fathers?
No. This website is meant for people, born in Indonesia/Dutch Indies between 1946-1951, with an Indonesian or Indo-european mother, who were fathered by Dutch military, and the next-of-kin of one of these categories, such as halfsisters, halfbrothers, grandchildren, friends, veterans etc.
Are you also interested in the stories of soldiers who married their war sweethearts and/or fathered children and kept in touch with them, or legalized their family bonds?
Yes. We do not only want to hear the sad stories, but also the happy ones. |
